Not to be Published: A Map of Jerusalem
“This publication is about a map of a country called Palestine. We invite you to bear witness to the confluence of past and present within the cartographic contours of the Survey of Palestine Military Grid Map [Edition of May 1941].”
‘Not to be Published’ is a hand-produced zine comprised of three personal accounts related in particular to a 1941 British military ordinance map of Jerusalem that was found in a second-hand shop in Southend, and its subsequent journey to a Palestinian home in London.
Featuring the writing of Arwa Aburawa, Ammanah Lamara and Mohamed, ‘Not to Be Published’ unpicks the relationship between cartography and colonialism, remembrance and resistance and the Palestinian struggle for liberation both past and present.
This numbered edition of 50 features a protective envelope with a clear window. The first run sold out at ASP Fair 2023. Profits from this edition are being used to provide free printing for under-resourced organisers.
